COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF FEBRUARY 10,1995 PSA#1281ADVANCED PROGRAM MANAGEMENT COURSE APMC PMT 302(DAU) Defense Systems
Management College (DSMC) Fort Belvoir, Virginia 6 March - 9 June 1995.
Openings are currently available for INDUSTRY STUDENT attendance to the
new 14-week Advanced Program Management Course (APMC) at the Defense
Systems Management College on a tuition free basis. This notice is for
potential students currently employed in non-government firms only.
APMC provides a professional education in defense systems acquisition
management for selected mid-career military officers and civilians
assigned to a defense systems acquisition management career field.
Enrollment is targeted at promising candidates for senior positions in
program management later in their careers and who now hold, or are
selected to hold, intermediate management positions in program offices,
functional offices supporting program offices, or higher-echelon
offices supervising program management. The curricula give students an
opportunity to develop a broad knowledge and understanding of defense
systems acquisition management through: (1) education in functional
areas necessary for effective operation of a program office; (2)
management simulation exercises involving principal events and
considerations encountered throughout the life cycle of a defense
system acquisition program; (3) case studies featuring lessons learned
from real-life programs; (4) interaction with current program
managers; and (5) analyses of current Office of the Secretary of
Defense and Service policies and strategies in defense systems
acquisition management, augmented by presentations from senior
officials. Previous attendees have described the program as the DoD/MBA
program. The APMC provides broad knowledge and acquisition management
perspective. Students develop process skills and competencies for
effective program management in parallel with improving their
acquisition knowledge. Experienced faculty, guest lecturers, and fellow
students probe ``best practices'', while covering pitfalls and
challenges of lessons learned. Interested industry candidates please
