66 -- ATOMIC ABSORPTION SPECTROMETER SOL NHLBI-HL-P-95-102 POC Kathleen J. Van Steelant, Contract Specialist, (301) 594-7874. It is the intent of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) to acquire a Atomic Absorption Spectrometer for installation in the Laboratory of Biochemistry in Bethesda, Maryland. The instrument must meet the following minimum specifications: 1) The atomic absorption spectrometer should be a furnace system, fully automatic and able to run up to 4 elements automatically and sequentially. The graphite furnace must be heated transversely to allow uniform heating across the whole length of the graphite tube, which shall have an integrated L'vov platform that is touching only one side of the graphite tube; 2) The background correction for the furnace must be accomplished with Longitudinal Zeeman, so no polarizer is needed in the optical path; 3) A monochromator with a focal length of at least 260 nm and a reciprocal linear dispersion of 1.6nm/mm; 4) A furnace autosampler must be provided that offers at least 81 sampling positions; 5) A electrodeless power supply must be provided that has push button ignition of the EDL lamps; 6) A system controlled fume extraction system must be provided with the graphite furnace to automatically remove all vapors and materials expelled by the furnace (smoke, bad odors, corrosive fumes) during drying and sample pretreatment stages, to help reduce the time needed for these stages; 7) A water circulating cooling system must be provided that is controlled by the system and automatically turns off by the system after an automatic run; 8) A single controlling computer (PC type with at least 8 megabyte RAM, 200 megabyte hard disk, and 80486 CPU) with printer must be provided; and 9) The following hollow cathode lamps elements must be provided: Copper, Zinc, Iron, and Nickel. A Selenium electrodeless discharge lamp must also be provided. The offeror shall provide training on the instrument for two (2) operators who will be designated by the NHLBI Project Officer. A firm fixed-price type contract will be negotiated. Delivery and installation of the instrument is anticipated within thirty (30) calendar days after the contract award. Only a fully installed and functional instrument will be accepted. Tests will be performed to ascertain that the instrument is functional before final acceptance. It is anticipated that Request for Proposal (RFP) NHLBI-HL-P-95-102 will be issued on or about March 1, 1995. Copies of the RFP may be obtained by writing to the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, Contracts Operations Branch, Procurement Section, Westwood Building, Room 836, 5333 Westbard Avenue, Bethesda, Maryland 20892, Attention: Kathleen J. Van Steelant, Contract Specialist. (0045)
