the intent of the National Library of Medicine to place an order
against a GSA non-mandatory Federal Supply Schedule, Contract Number
GSOOK94AGS5993-PS01 with Silicon Graphics, Inc., 12200-G Plum Orchard
Drive, Silver Spring, Maryland 22021 for the following specific make
and model or equivalent specifications: (1) Silicon Graphics R-48808-S4
Challenge XL rack server with 8 x 200 MHz R4400 CPUs, 4 MB secondary
cache per CPU, 64 MB RAM, IMB, 2 GB system disk, 1 each; (2) Silicon
Graphics HU-448-4MB Additional 4 x 200 MHz R4400 with 4 MB secondary
cache, 1 each; (3) Silicon Graphics FTO-64UP512-4 RAM upgrade to 512 MB
total, 4-way interleave, including one additional IMB memory board for
Challenge system, 1 each; (4) Silicon Graphics CC4-FDDIXP-3.0.1
Dual-attach FDDI for Challenge system, 1 each; (5) Silicon Graphics
P-S-B1X2HSL-M SCSI device expansion cabinet for Challenge rack system
with one 2 GB fast-wide-differential disk drive, 1 each; (6) Silicon
Graphics P-S-HIO SCSI-2 10 MHz/16-bit differential interface, 1 each;
(7) Silicon Graphics SC4-IDO-5.3 IRIS Development Option for IRIX 5.3,
1 each; (8) SC4-NFS-5.3 ONC3/NFS Network File System and ONC software
for IRIX 5.3, 1 each; (9) One year of hardware and systems software
support for all items above, 1 each; (10) One year of support for
non-systems software items above (Items 7 and 8), 1 each; (11) CD-ROM
update media option, 1 each. The system must meet the following
specifications: Items 1-8 shall constitute a 12-processor Unix-based
symmetric multiprocessor computer with 512 MB of memory, 2 GB of
fast-wide-differential SCSI disk capacity, and a dual-attach FDDI
interface. Single processor performance shall have a SPECint_92 rating
of at least 140 and a SPECfp_92 rating of at least 140. Performance of
the multiprocessor system as delivered shall be at least 35,000 as
measured by the SPECrate_int92 benchmark and 38,000 as measured by the
SPECrate_fp92 benchmark. The unit shall be expandable up to a total of
at least 24 processors and 6 GB RAM in a single system cabinet. The
performance of such a system shall be at least 52,000 (SPECrate_int92)
and 58,000 (SPECrate_fp92). The cabinetry required to house the unit
shall have a footprint of not more than 12 square feet. Firms must be
able to provide all the above listed items and meet all specifications
in order to be considered. Firms interested in responding to this
notice with an equivalent product must submit clear and convincing
documentation as part of its response, including technical and itemized
pricing data, that it can provide all the above listed items and meet
all specifications. Response should sufficiently demonstrate the firm's
ability to meet the Government's requirements. If a response indicates
a competitive acquisition would be more advantageous to the
Government, a formal solicitation may be issued. The notice of intent
to place an order against a non-mandatory schedule contract shall not
be considered a solicitation document. No soliciation documents exists,
therefore an analysis will be made on the basis of information received
in response to this notice. Responses are required within fifteen (15)
