The US Army Research Office announces the competition for a university-based research center on the scientific foundations of image analysis. The long term goal of the center is to develop the fundamental underpinnings of object recognition. The center will serve as a focal point for the science of image analysis and will act as an interface between the Army and the university community. A single center will be selected for an award of a 3 year grant. The duration and level of funding will be approximately $1.5 million per year for three years, with a possible extension of two additional years. The anticipated start date is July 1, 1995. The center may be a consortium involving several academic and industrial components. The lead institution must be a research university and the center must include participation of at least one Historically Black College/University or Minority Institution. Proposals under this BAA are due by 3:00 pm EDT on April 27, 1995 to the address shown below.
