COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF FEBRUARY 17,1995 PSA#1286NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center, Code 287 Greenbelt, MD A -- CRYOGENIC VALVES SOL RFP5-14839/238 POC Darlene Walter,
301-286-4239. CRYOGENIC VALVES FOR X-RAY SPECTROMETER (XRS). NASA/GSFC
intends to issue a Request for Proposal (RFP)5-14839/238 on a sole
source basis to Mission Research Corp., Logan, UT. The contract will
procure eight one-half inch valves and six sets of drive electronics
for use on the XRS system of the ASTRO-E satellite. The valves operate
over the temperature range from room temperature down to about 4.2
degree K. The drive electronics will operate at room (temperature)
conditions only. The valve is the Model Number CV-94.5 whose design has
been flight qualified to the performance requirements by Mission
Research Corp. A test is required on a non-flight valve to verify the
mechanical integrity. The valves are to be electrically operated and
produce position status information. The valves must be fully
functional for all ground testing but are not operated after launch.
The requirement after launch is that they stay closed and do not exceed
specification leak rates. Pursuant to 10 U.S.C. 2304(c)(1), Mission
Research Corp. is the only responsible source capable of meeting the
Government's minimum requirements, and no other known source is capable
to provide the cryogenic (liquid helium) valve to meet the temperature
ranges required. Any persons desiring consideration are requested to
fully identify their interest and capabilities within fifteen (15) days
of the publication of this synopsis to the GSFC Contracting Officer
listed above. See Note 22. (0046) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0002 19950216\A-0002.SOL)
