COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF FEBRUARY 21,1995 PSA#1287TECHNOLOGY SHOWCASE A 3-day technology exposition, Technology
Opportunities Showcase (TOPS) 95, will be held at NASA's Langley
Research Center in Hampton, VA. April 6-8, 1995. The focus of TOPS 95
is to transfer technology from Government research to U.S. aerospace
and non-aerospace industry. TOPS 95 will feature 147 technology
exhibits in the following disciplines: Electronic/Optical Systems,
Engineering/Mathematical Tools, Information Technology,
Instruments/Sensors, Manufacturing/Industrial Processes, Materials, and
Structures. The Showcase will also feature exhibits on unique testing
capabilities, facilities, and educational and communications tools,
along with advanced research results and plans in the following focused
programs: High-Speed Research, Advanced Subsonic Transport, General
Aviation, Atmospheric Sciences, and Spacecraft and Remote Sensing.
Langley's senior managers, scientists, engineers, and technicians will
be on hand to detail research efforts in each area of interest.
Supporting research documentation and procedures for dual-use
partnerships will be available. The first TOPS was held in October 1993
and was successful in initiating new partnerships with industry.
Currently, NASA Langley Research Center has 24 licenses with industry
and 146 Space Act Agreements with a variety of small and large
companies. Of these Space Act Agreements, 32 were initiated in 1993, 61
were initiated in 1994, and 18 have been initiated so far in 1995. Due
to increased attendance projections, licenses and agreements that
result from TOPS 95 are expected to significantly exceed those that
occurred from TOPS 93. To date, TOPS 95 has more than 850 confirmed
attendees. Pre-registration packages are currently being mailed. Major
