20050-6563 S -- ASSISTANCE IN THE REMOVAL OF TRACE CADMIUM Sol 031095 Contact
Point, Cheong Chon (202) 373-8416/James Dashiell (202) 373-2947. The
Government does not intend to award a contract on the basis of this
Request for Information (RFI) or to otherwise pay for the information
solicited. The RFI is issued for the purpose of assessing the
availability of assistance concerning the removal of trace cadmium from
a highly viscous photographic chemical wastestream. Characteristics of
this waste stream are a high pH (approx. equal to 10.8), a large
viscosity (approx. equal to 18,000 centipoise), specific gravity of
1.05 and high levels of otherdissolved solids. The viscosity of the
wastestream greatly complicates the use of traditional metallic
precipitation processes (i.e., hydroxide, sulfide, etc.). Currrently,
investigating the use of enzymatic, biological or chemical agents to
destroy the natrosol component and allow for use of precipitation
processes. The Government is seeking assistance in the conversion of
the viscous wastestream to a liquid to allow for the effective removal
of leachable cadmium. Also the Government is seeking assistance in the
selection, installation, and maintenance of a metals treatment system
designed primarily to remove cadmium, but capable of being modified to
address additional heavy metals. The Virginia Contracting Activity
plans to release the RFI on or about 09 March 1995. All responses shall
be submitted to the Virginia Contracting Activity, P.O. Box 46563,
ATTN: DAP-2A, Cheong Chon, Washington, D.C. 20050-6563 within 15 days
