COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF FEBRUARY 23,1995 PSA#1289U.S. EPA EMSL-LV, P.O. Box 93478, Las Vegas, NV 89193-3478 A -- NOTICE OF EPA'S INTENTION TO CONDUCT A DEMONSTRATION AND
PERFORMANCE VERIFICATION STUDY OF FIELD PORTABLE GAS CHROMATOGRAPH/MASS
SPECTROMETERS FOR VOLATILE ORGANIC COMPOUNDS POC Art Verado, Sandia
National Laboratories, Environmental Characterization and Monitoring
Systems Department, 505-845-9614, FAX 505-844-0114/EPA Technical Lead,
Gary Robertson, U.S. EPA Environmental Monitoring Systems
Laboratory-Las Vegas 702-798-2215. Sandia National Laboratories, acting
on behalf of the U.S. EPA, will be conducting a technology
demonstration and performance verification test of Field Portable Gas
Chromatograph/Mass Spectrometers for the analysis of volatile organic
compounds during the summer of 1995. This notice is one method being
used to solicit expressions of interest in participating in this
verification test from developers of such instruments. The EPA has
established the Consortium for Site Characterization Technology (CSCT)
as one of the verification programs operating under the aegis of the
Environmental Technology Innovation, Commercialization, and Enhancement
(EnTICE) Program. The CSCT is a partnership between the EPA and the
Departments of Energy and Defense. Policies and procedures for
demonstrating and evaluating the performance of monitoring,
measurement, and site characterization technologies are being
established under this program. The CSCT will offer technical expertise
to support the demonstration and verification of the performance of new
and emerging technologies and will offer access to a wide array of
testing venues. A goal of the CSCT is to facilitate the acceptance and
use of cost-effective technologies applicable to a wide range of
environmental problems. The CSCT will meet this goal by working with
technology developers and other agencies in planning and conducting
demonstrations, evaluating data generated in demonstrations, and
promoting acceptance of the technology by the regulatory community. The
CSCT does not offer any direct financial support to those desiring to
conduct a technology demonstration. The developer is expected to secure
the appropriate resources to support their part of the technology
verification process. The CSCT does provide developers with a clearly
defined technology verification pathway to follow, from demonstration
planning to data evaluation, to receipt of a verification letter from
the EPA. Interested developers with mature technologies (i.e.
commercially available units with proven field experience) should FAX
a one page letter of interest to the POC no later than 3/15/95.
Developers may also send a brief (no more than two pages) product
description. Qualified developers will be notified of an informational
meeting hosted by Sandia which will describe the verification process
in more detail. (052) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0013 19950222\A-0013.SOL)
