COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF FEBRUARY 24,1995 PSA#1290USDA, Food Safety and Inspection Service, ASD, PCS, Room 2159 South
Building, 14th & Independence Avenue SW, Washington, DC 20250-3700 B -- FIELD TESTS FOR MEASURING CHLORINE DIOXIDE SOL FSIS-3-W-95 DUE
031795 POC Contact Point, Julie Adams, (202)720-9891 The Department of
Agriculture, Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), intends to
review field tests for measuring chlorine dioxide in water in the
ranges of 0-5 ppm and 0-50 ppm. In the low range, the best tests should
be able to determine chlorine dioxide in water that is colored with
heme and that contains significant amounts of suspended particulate and
organic matter. Tests will be reviewed to determine the usefulness of
various generic chemistries and formats, not to select a particular
test kit. A laboratory review will examine such parameters as
ruggedness, exactness and reliability of results, cost, and ease of
use. Test results will be compared against chlorine dioxide results
determined by amperometric titration in the same sample. Respondents
should be aware that the selected chemistry(s) and format(s) may be
published in a proposed rule governing utesting for chlorine dioxide in
meat plants. No viable techniques should be excluded from this review.
This request is for information and planning purposes only, not a
request for proposals and does not commit the government to pay for
preparation or demonstration costs. The government does not intend to
award contract(s) based on the information received. Vendors are
reminded that only the Contracting Officer has the authority to commit
government funds. Interested vendors with a field useable test for
chlorine dioxide that can perform within these concentration ranges may
submit information to the Contracting Office at the above address.
Responses shall be submitted by close of business March 17, 1995.
