range of services to augment, enhance, and operate the AWN and the
NGN. The NRC will provide a conceptual design with the solicitation.
This conceptual design will be used by all offerors to develop a
preliminary detailed design for the NRC's NGN. As part of any proposal
submission, offerors shall submit preliminary plans outlining
transition, management, and technical approaches. The AWN, which
supports DOS and UNIX workstations, Novell and UNIX servers,
application servers, and specialized network software; is composed of
numerous Local Area Networks (LANs) and a Wide Area Network (WAN). Once
a final detailed design is accepted, the contractor shall provide all
hardware (includes acquisition and implementation of new technology
products), software, and staff support services to meet the
requirements of NRC users for enhanced, expanded and new network,
servers, connectivity, and computing requirements. The current network,
which has over 3500 users, consists of token ring and ethernet LANs, an
FDDI backbone, DOS and UNIX workstations and servers, SynOptics hubs,
Wellfleet routers, TCP/IP connectivity, security and virus protection,
and dial-in/dial-out modem pools. On-site LAN Administrators will be
required at the NRC headquarters in Rockville, Md and six remote
locations: King of Prussia, Pa; Atlanta, Ga; Lisle, Il; Arlington, Tx;
Walnut Creek, Ca; and Chattanooga, Tn. The contract type anticipated
is a cost plus fixed fee with a period of performance which includes a
three year base period plus two, one year options. 340,000 hours of
support is estimated for the base period. This requirement is a
nationwide 8(a) competition limited to only transitional 8(a) firms as
defined by the Small Business Administration. A request for the
solicitation should indicate the size of the business based upon a SIC
code of 7379. The size standard for this solicitation is $18.0. A
delegation of procurement authority has been requested from GSA. A copy
of the solicitation and all subsequent amendments will be provided to
each requester. Interested firms should submit written requests to the
U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission at the address as shown above.
