COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF MARCH 1,1995 PSA#1293Social Security Administration, Office of Acquisition and Grants,
Baltimore, Maryland 21207-0696 Attn:1-E-4 GWNO/Charlotte Simpson X -- SOFTWARE LICENSE AND SOFTWARE MAINTENANCE POC Charlotte Simpson
tel: (410) 965-9496 Software License and Software Maintenance. The
Social Security Administration is attempting to identify vendors who
can provide an analytical modeling package to model its Headquarters
Data Center. The Headquarters Data Center currently contains 1 - Amdahl
5990-1400, 1 - HDS EX-100, 2 - IBM 9021-900s, 2 - IBM 9021-860s, 5 -
IBM 3090-600Js and approximately 4 terabytes of Direct Access Storage
Devices (DASD) or about 2050 DASD. The analytical modeling package
should process RMF, SMF, and TMON data to build the model, and it
should support workload balancing, workload growth, LPAR tuning, I/O
subsystem modeling, memory modeling, and performance problem
identification and solution testing. Eight of the larger machines
described above function as a single production environment, share
approximately 1700 DASD, and support over 100 CICS regions. An
acceptable modeling package could model the above production
environment as a single entity and display the shared CPU and shared
DASD effects. The modeling package would have the capability of
reporting at the Data Center wide level as well as the physical and
logical systems levels. The salient characteristics of a modeling
package that would satisfy our needs would include the following: o
process RMF, SMF and TMON data, extract necessary data and build the
model o produce a single model of an environment which includes eight
physical processors, shares 1700 DASD volumes, and supports over 100
CICS regions o have the capabiltiy to model the I/O sybsystem of the
above environment and report the device utilization and response time
effects o have the capability to model memory of the above environment
(including central storage, expanded storage, and extended storage)
and report the response time and CPU utilization effects o have the
capability model workload growth on the above environment and report
the response time and CPU utilization effects o have the capability to
move workloads in the above environment from one physical or logical
system to another and report the response time and CPU utilization
effects o identify the constrained resource in all modeling scenarios
o report results of all modeling scenarios at the data center, physical
system, and logical system levels. o clearly report the effects of
shared CPU and shared DASD in the above environment o contain embeded
tables of performance characteristics for the current IBM
plug-compatible CPUs and DASDs The responses must clearly state the
ability to provide an analytical modeling package capable of satisfying
the above stated requirements. Interested parties must respond to this
notice within 15 calendar days from the date of this publication.
Responses must be addressed to the procuring office below: Social
