Brand Name or Equal -- GMW Associates, P.O. Box 2578, Redwood City, CA
94064. The Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) wishes to add a Trace
Element Accelerator Mass Spectrometer (TEAMS) capability to its
existing tandem ion accerlerator facility, without adversely effecting
the existing capabilities of this facility. The tandem accelerator is
a National Electrostatics Corporation 9SDH-2 machine purchased in
1987, with a 3MV terminal potential. NRL intends to negotiate on a full
and open competition for a control subsystem using a multiplexed fiber
optic control network to provide computer control and monitoring of
the TEAMS system. The subsystem should provide fiber optic to
instrument interfaces that can be located close to the instruments, for
example, through ''I/O boards'' plugged into a ''device interface''
attached to the fiber optic cable. The communication protocol, the
''I/O boards'', and the ''device interfaces'' must all be compatible
with the components and control system already existing or ordered.
There are 6 line items in this subsystem each providing a specific
control or monitoring capability. Most line items include optional
quantities for each of the components to be purchased in the line item.
The six line items are: 1) System backbone of ''device interfaces''
with processor boards, mounting hardware, AC power supplies, and fiber
optic loop cables, 2) Analog to digital input ''I/O boards'' with
signal conditioners, DIN rails, mounting hardware and ribbon cables, 3)
Digital to analog output ''I/O boards'' with signal conditioners, DIN
rails, mounting hardware and ribbon cables, 4) Digital ''I/O boards''
with signal conditioners, DIN rails, mounting hardware and ribbon
cables, 5) Motor driver ''I/O boards'' and ribbon cables, and 6)
Encoder input ''I/O boards'' and ribbon cables. No telephone requests
for this requirement will be accepted. Request for a copy must be
submitted in writing to the Naval Research Laboratory, Attn: Code
