Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory (KAPL, Inc.) requires a Computer Controlled 4 Axis Vertical Machining Center (Hitachi Seiki Model VK55II or Equal). The machining center shall have a minimum table size of 22'' x 50'' with a minimum work piece weight of at least 2,000 lb. Axis travels shall be a minimum of 40'' in the x, 20'' in the y and 20'' in the z. The computer control shall be a 32 bit interactive 4 axis simultaneous control (Seiki MultiM or equal). The following equipment shall be included with this machining center; probe system, 4th axis simultaneous rotary table with 10'' chuck and tailstock, subplate and a base tool holder package. The machine casting will be a one piece close grain ribbed casting. The spindle will have a #50 machine taper with a (greater than or equal or) 15hp AC variable speed drive. The machine shall have a positioning accuracy of +/- 0.0002 over the full table travel an a repeatability of +/- 0.00004. It shall operate on a supplied power of 480v, 3 phase, 60 Hz, or be provided with a power transformer.
