44135 68 -- SYNTHESIS OF NON-MUTAGENIC DIAMINES FOR POLYMIDES SOL 590410 POC
Rita Homady, Contract Specialist, (216) 433-2753, MS 500-306 Paul
Karla, Contracting Officer, (216) 433-2824, MS 500-306. The diamine 4,4
- methylenedianiline (MDA) used in the commercial polyimide PMR-15 is
known to be mutagenic. The MDA is an intercalating agent that can
assume a planar conformation which leads to a frameshift mutagenesis.
The objective of this effort is to synthesize at least three new
diamines to be used as replacements for MDA in the PMR-15 polyimide
resin. The new diamines must be non-mutagenic for both frameshift
mutations and base-pair substitutions in the Ames test for
mutagenicity. In addition, the structures of the new diamines should
have no adverse effect on the thermo-mechanical properties and
thermooxidative stability of the PRM-15 polyimide. The second part of
this effort involves subjecting the 51 compounds shown in Table I to
the Ames test for mutagenicity. Estimated period of performance is 6
months. This notice is for information only. Justification to permit
contracting with St. Norbert College has been prepared using citation
10 USC 2304(c)(1) as its authority. See Numbered Note(s): 22. (0062) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0289 19950306\68-0001.SOL)
