202/268-4172. The United States Postal Service has a requirement for a
cable management system(s) (CMS). The proposed system(s) should
provide the capability to: (1) label and identify voice, data and video
equipment and cable; (2) provide end-to-end cable connection tracing;
(3) provide the ability to change cable/circuit routing; (4) address
adds, moves and changes of circuits, equipment and cable; and (5)
provide a means of identifying problems within the cable plant. This
request is for a CMS that will include, but is not limited to, the
following: (1) is capable of operating in a Microsoft Windows 3.1
Novell Network, UNIX or Vax/Vms based environment; (2) CMS software
upgrades can be installed by Postal Service personnel; (3) is capable
of managing multiple small remote USPS locations from a larger central
location, and can separate database information by building; (4) is
capable of residing in a LAN, and if so, system information can be
passed from one LAN to another if required; (5) is capable of
generating a telephone directory; (6) is capable of generating work
orders as site or section specific; (7) can perform call detail
recording; (8) can identify/manage structure tracking; i.e. manholes,
conduit, etc.; (9) is capable of tracing end-to-end cable link scenario
where the actual physical cable type (twisted pair, coax, fiber) as
well as the equipment it passes through, changes throughout the link in
route to a final termination point; (10) can track equipment/cable
warranties and/or repairs as well as provide equipment/cable spare
listings; (11) is capable of providing systems security to prevent
tampering or unauthorized use/access; (12) define how technical support
is provided; and (13) explain what type of training is provided by the
manufacturer. All submissions/proposals under this request should
include references, brochures, technical documentation, manuals and any
government pricing information available. Demonstrations may be
requested. No material(s) submitted for testing will be returned. The
information provided to the USPS will be used to determine the
feasibility of installing cable management system(s) when structured
wiring is installed in Postal facilities. No solicitation document is
available. Requests for a solicitation package will not be considered.
No award will be made as a result of the information received.
However, all cost data must be accurate to ensure that a valid
feasibility is conducted. Should the Postal Service decide to go forth
with a formal solicitation for cable management system(s), only
offerors responding to this request for information will be considered.
