45433-7607 A -- LEAN IMPLEMENTATION INITIATIVE PRESOLICITATION BRIEFING POC
Frederick Rueth, Contracting Officer, (513) 255-7143. LEAN
IMPLEMENTATION INITIATIVE PRESOLICITATION BRIEFING, -- The Air Force's
Manufacturing Technology Directorate as part of Wright Laboratory,
Wright-Patterson AFB, OH (WL/MT) will conduct a presolicitation
bidders' conference to disseminate information relative to the goals
and objectives of the Lean Implementation Initiative (LII). WL/MT
manages a cooperative agreement with the Massachusetts Institute of
Technology to bring the defense aircraft industry together in a
consortial arrangement for precompetitive research and assessment. The
studies and surveys performed thus far have been focused on supplier
relationships, product development, human resource management, and
factory operations. Findings from this last area will provide the basis
for a Broad Agency Announcement titled, ''High Performance Military
Product Realization,'' to be issued by WL/MT shortly after this
presolicitation briefing. This presentation will commence at 1400
hours, 5 April 1995, at the Stouffer Renaissance Hotel in Dayton, OH,
as the final activity of Industrial Base Pilots Industry Days. This
two-day event features a full day (4 April) of presentations devoted to
the two Industrial Base Pilot programs: Military Products from
Commercial Lines (with TRW), and Military Products Using Best
Commercial/Military Practices (with McDonnell-Douglas). The second day
of presentations is focused on sharing results of pathfinder projects
demonstrating concepts espoused by the Air Force Aeronautical Systems
Center's Manufacturing Development Initiative, specifically feedback
of process characterization data to the design process. Interested
companies are invited to attend all or part of these sessions on 4 and
5 April 1995. Invitation packages may be requested by contacting Ms.
Tracy Tapia, UTC, at 513-426-8755. Technical questions regarding these
sessions may be directed to Mr. Brench Boden, WL/MTI, at 513-255-5674.
