currently looking into alternative methods of upgrading its heavy
vehicle fleet. The current fleet is composed of the Logistics Vehicle
System (LVS) consisting of a front power unit (similar to a truck
tractor) connected by an articulated joint to one of four (4)
specialized rear body units: the MK14 Container Hauler, the MK15
Wrecker/Recovery Unit, the MK16 5th Wheel to accommodate military-type
semitrailers, and the MK17 Dropside Cargo Unit with Crane. The
alternatives currently being considered are (a) remanufacture the
current fleet, (b) procure a new fleet as Nondevelopmental Items, (c)
procure a new fleet through a full blown R&D effort, or (d) continue to
repair and replace the current units as needed. Industry is encouraged
to provide input into these ideas, and to provide other ideas,
regarding the upgrade of the heavy fleet. This program is currently in
the early planning stages. Accordingly, the publication of this
announcement may in no way be construed as a promise by the Government
to procure any services or materials. No solicitation document exists,
though interested parties may request further information at the
address provided above. (0065) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0251 19950307\23-0003.SOL)
