58 -- AUTOMATED METEOROLOGICAL PROFILING SYSTEM (AMPS) Sol F04684-95-R-0009. Due 061595. The 30th Space Wing intends to purchase an Automated Meteorological Profiling System (AMPS) that will integrate the functions of the Meteorological Sounding System (MSS) and the Jimsphere Tracking System (JTS) which are used on the Western Range (WR), Vandenberg AFB CA and the Eastern Range (ER), Patrick AFB, FL. The MSS consists of a ground tracking and telemetry system that determines wind, temperature, relative humidity, and pressure data from a balloon to obtain more precise high resolution wind profile measurements. The Jimsphere is a constant volume two meter diameter radar reflective sphere whose surface is roughened to control vortex shedding. In an effort to use the latest technologies to reduce cost while improving data accuracy, WR and ER seek to replace these existing sounding systems with a standardized, more economical system. This task serves to 1) replace the MSS balloon sounding systems, 2) provde an alternative to radar-tracked Jimspheres, and 3) provide an economical means for producing atmospheric soundings. It is anticipated that the useof Global Positioning System (GPS) technology will be a leading candidate for determining the wind profiles. However, other means of obtaining this data will not be excluded. The Standard Industrial Classification Code for this acquisition is 3829, size standard; 500 employees. The proposed procurement is open to both large and small business. The anticipated solicitation release date for this acquisition is 12 Apr 95, with a pre-proposal conference and site visit scheduled for 28 Apr 95 at Vandenberg AFB. A site visit is anticipated for Patrick AFB FL, within two or three days after the scheduled Vandenberg AFB site visit.
