U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Health Effects Research Laboratory, Sharon Campfield MD-51, Research Triangle Park, NC 27711

A -- INVITES PROPOSALS FOR COMPETITIVE COOPERATIVE AGREEMENTS IN THE AREA OF ANIMAL MODELS OF MYOPIA FOLLOWING DEVELOPMENTAL EXPOSURE TO ORGANOPHOSPHATES Sol NTD0195. Due 033195. Contact Point, Health Effects Research Laboratory, Raelyn Janssen, 919-541-7547, FAX 919-541-4849. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is mandated to assess risk associated with exposure to environmental neurotoxic agents. Based on the purportedly high incidence of myopia and other ocular lesions in children exposed to the organophosphate (OP) class of pesticides, EPA is seeking projects for competitive Cooperative Agreements that would involve collaborative research on animal models of developmental myopia. Cooperation is required in two specific aspects of the research: 1) animal models of OP toxicity, including OP exposure and animal housing, especially for chickens, a preferred species in experimental myopia; and 2) veterinary ophthalmology. Each of these two facets will be funded separately at the level of up to $25,000/year, including overhead, for 3 years. To learn how to apply and to receive important information and application forms, call, write or FAX: Raelyn Janssen, Ph.D., Neurotoxicology Division (MD 74B), U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Research Triangle Park, NC 27711, Tel: (919) 541-7547, FAX: (919) 541-4849. Deadline for proposals is March 31, 1995. This solicitation is subject to 40 CFR Parts 30 and 40 EPA Grant Regulations. Authority for this solicitation is provided by the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA), as amended, Section 20. Therefore both nonprofit and profit-making organizations are eligible. EPA reserves the right not to make any awards from this solicitation. (062)
