A -- DESIGN AND FABRICATION OF A PERMANENT MAGNET SHIP PROPULSION MOTOR SOL N00024-95-R-4129 POC (024J) D. Boyer, Contracting Officer (703) 602-8208, Ext. 460. The Naval Sea Systems Command has a requirement for the design and fabrication of a Permanent Magnet ship propulsion motor. A contract is intended to be awarded to Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Company. A major subcontract is anticipated to Kaman Electromagnetics Corporation under a teaming agreement. The work will include design of a 25,000 hp, 150 rpm axial air gap machine incorporating two modules, each rated at half the horsepower of the machine as a whole. The motor modules will have a common housing, shaft and bearings. Input power will be from a three phase, 4,160 volt, 60 Hz source. This is an extension of the Newport News - Kaman development of a 3,000 hp motor now being tested. See Numbered Note(s): 22. (0066)
