M. King (202) 767-2550. The Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) has a
requirement for shipyard work to support the US Navy's research
projects at the Navy Technology Center for Safety and Survivability
(NTCSS). The labor and services described herein shall be provided by
the contractor at either the contractor's facilities or at the
facilities of NTCSS. The center's facilities consist of those
facilities at and on Little Sand Island in Mobile Bay, Mobile, AL,
including the research vessel, ex-USS SHADWELL (LSD-15) as moored. The
contractor shall provide personnel, materials, and facilities to
support the Navy's research projects and to assist the NTCSS personnel
in the maintenance, repair, and rework of the Center's project support
equipment and machinery. This includes, but is not limited to,
drydocking and repair of a 35 ft. workboat and 40 ft. personnel
carrier, rework of ex-USS SHADWELL and related machinery and equipment
utilized by the Center in the accomplishment of its mission. It is
anticipated that the contractor will respond to delivery orders to be
issued as needed during the period of performance. It is expected that
the labor will consist of, but not be limited to, the following
categories, machinery maintenance mechanic, machinist maintenance,
rigger, welder combination maintenance, sheet metal worker maintenance,
electrician maintenance, laborer, painter maintenance, pipefitter
maintenance, able seaman maintenance, scale mechanic, environmental
technician, drafter machinery, drafter piping systems, drafter
electrical systems, drafter service structural (vessel), heavy
equipment operator, and, boatswain. Period of performance is estimated
to be one year with two (2) one year option periods. Potential
contractors will be allowed to inspect the affected facilities during
