The Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division, China Lake, intends to procure three gigabyte hard disk drive subsystems with enclosures and cables, two 8 millimeter tape drive subsystems with enclosures and cables, and one hundred 8 millimeter data tapes. The hard disk drive subsystems will be used for on-line storage of files which range in size up to 7 gigabytes so it is necessary that the individual drives used to make up the 36 gigabyte capacity have a capacity of at least 7 gigabytes. The tape drives must be capable of storing at least 7 gigabytes fo data on a single tape, uncompressed, and the drives must be able to read tapes that were written using an Exabyte 8500 8 millimeter tape drive. These subsystems will be connected to several computer systems from Silicon Graphics and thus have different interface requirements. One hard drive subsystem must connect via 68-pin fast-wide, differential SCSI. The remaining two hard drive subsystems and both tape drives must connect via standard Centronics-type 50-pin SCSI.
