The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is issuing a Request for
Proposals (RFP) for a subsistence prime vendor program for the
distribution of food items directly to all VA Medical Centers
nationwide. As a minimuim the distributor shall carry a broad range of
grocery items; basic cuts of frozen meats, poultry, and fish; frozen
fruits, juices, vegetables, and desserts; frozen eggs; frozen entrees;
sugar, fat, or sodium modified products; and cleaning and table top
supplies. The medical centers will be grouped into 17 geographical
clusters and distributors will have the opportunity to submit proposals
for any or all clusters. Pricing on all contract items wil be adjusted
monthly (or weekly for market items) based on the distributor's
current product price plus a fixed mark-up. RFP will be issued on or
about March 29, 1995. Requests for copies of the RFP should be faxed to
(708) 216-2451 (ATTN: Subsistence Prime Vendor). Street addresses must
be included; P.O. boxes are not acceptable. The VA intends to conduct
a preproposal conference in Chicago, IL, on or about April 11, 1995,
to explain the clarify the requirements of the RFP and to respond to
general questions raised by prospective offerors. Questions regarding
