A -- FABRICATION OF CARBON-CARBON COMPONENTS FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINES POC NASA Langley Research Center, Industry Assistance Office, Mail Stop 144, Hampton, Virginia 23681-0001. Vendors are being sought as suppliers of carbon-carbon composite pistons and cylinder liners for testing in internal combustion engines to evaluate the potential of carbon-carbon composite for such applications. Carbon-Carbon composites have unique physical and mechanical properties, several of which can potentially be taken advantage to make pistons that will improve the performance and efficiency of internal combustion engines and reduce exhaust emissions. NASA Langley Research Center is highly interested in those experienced in the manufacture of carbon-carbon components of the type described. Anyone wishing to respond to this announcement should provide company literature, relative publications, and a summary of prior related work in the design and fabrication of carbon-carbon composite pistons and cylinder liners. This synopsis is for information and planning purposes and is not to be construed as a commitment by the Government nor will the Government pay for information solicited. Respondents will not be notified of the results of the evaluation. Respondents deemed fully qualified will be considered in any resulting solicitation for the requirement. Firms responding should indicate whether they are a socially or economically disadvantaged business firm, an 8(a) firm, a small business, and/or woman-owned business. The Government reserves the right to consider a small business set-aside or 8(a) set-aside based on responses hereto.
