The intent of this project is to remove and replace the existing 1000 ton, R-11, ODC, chillers and associated equipment to improve the energy efficiency of the chilled water central plant at Hanscom AFB, MA. Principal items of work include but are not limited to: Replace existing chillers and associated piping, replace the existing plate and frame heat exchanger and related mechanical piping, demolition, installation of new air separator and expansion tank, replace the existing condensing water controls, replace existing chilled water control system, rigging heavy equipment, critical phasing, coordination of the work with existing contractor, and all associated electrical work. The basic bid will consist of the replacement of one 1000 ton chiller with associated piping, chiller controls, central plant control system, condenser water reset, refrigerant monitoring system, mechanical room ventilation, electrical work, and training. There will be optional bid items on the following: (1) Replacement of a second 1000 ton chiller with associated piping controls, connection to central chiller plant control, electrical work, and training. (2) Replacement of the plate and frame heat exchanger with associated piping, installation of existing condensor water control valve, electrical work, and training. (3) Demolition and removal of existing steam absorption chiller and associated piping, and electrial connections, and removal of R-114 container. (4) Install air separator and expansion tank with associated piping. The Contractor will be allowed 9 months to complete the basic bid only. The Contractor will be allowed 18 months to complete the entire project including all options awarded with the basic bid. For options awarded after intitial award period, the performance will be specified in the bid documents. These periods include an exclusion for physical work during the peak cooling season, 15 June until 30 September. The magnitude for this project is between $1 million and $5 million.
