A -- LAWRENCE LIVERMORE NATIONAL LABORATORY OFFERS ARRAYED HUMAN C-DNA LIBRARIES FOR SCREENING AND CLONE DISTRIBUTION Announcement: The Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) is operated by the University of California under contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). As part of the complementary DNA (c-DNA) subproject of the Human Genome Center, c-DNA clones made from a wide variety of human tissues have been arrayed (``Libraries''). Through an international collaborative effort known as the IMAGE Consortium, arrayed c-DNA clones have been distributed to the scientificcommunity. The intent of LLNL and the IMAGE Consortium is to advance the public interest through the distribution of arrayed c-DNA clones from the Libraries and through submission into public databases of sequencing, mapping, and expression data generated through the use of these arrayed clones. The c-DNA Libraries are propagated in plasmid vectors and the clone inserts can be amplified using vector primers that flank the inserts. The Libraries are arrayed as individual clones in 384-well microtiter dishes, each clone having at least one unique identifier. These clones have formed, and continue to form, the basis of a number of large-scale efforts to produce sequence and chromosomal assignment data to be placed in public databases. LLNL is looking for companies (``Recipients'') who wish to act, on a nonexclusive basis, as resource/distribution centers for screening these arrayed c-DNA Libraries and for distributing individual clones from the Library to ``End Users.'' LLNL anticipates that such companies may wish to provide high-density gridded filters (made from colonies or amplified c-DNA inserts) suitable for hybridization. End Users of the clones will agree in good faith to make sequence, map, and expression data derived from the use of these clones available to the scientific community by publication and submission of data to appropriate databases. End Users of the LLNL arrayed c-DNA clones may only distribute clones to other parties if the LLNL-provided good faith agreement concerning their use accompanies the clones, and if such distribution is at no charge. The arrayed libraries will be transferred from LLNL via an Agreement between the Recipient and The Regents of the University of California. The Recipient will be asked to offset the costs of the array replication and transfer (approx. $1,000-$5,000 per array replica). The Agreement will be coordinated through the LLNL Industrial Partnerships & Commercialization Office (IP&C). Recipients should note that no license, either direct or implied, will be granted via this Agreement to other Univerisity-owned intellectual property. LLNL, on behalf of the Federal Government, will retain rights to continue research pertinent to the Libraries on behalf of the United States throughout the world. The Regents of the University of California also expressly reserves the right to use the Libraries for educational and research purposes. If you are interested in obtaining the arrayed LLNL c-DNA Libraries, please respond in writing to LLNL providing the following information: (1) The name and address of your organization; (2) the name, address, telephone, and fax number of the point of contact in your organization; (3) the expertise and facilities that your organization possesses that would qualify you as a distribution/screening center; and (4) the time frame in which you are willing to accept these libraries. Please send this information to Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Industrial Partnerships & Commercialization Office, Attn: Arrayed c-DNA Library Project, L-795, P.O. Box 808, Livermore, CA 94550 (FAX No. (510) 423-8988). (072)
