COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF MARCH 20.1995 PSA#1306`METRIC TOWN MEETING' TO TAKE MEASURE OF METRIC ISSUES MARCH 27--28,
1995 GAITHERSBURG, MD The U.S. Department of Commerce and the
Interagency Council on Metric Policy will hold a Metric Town Meeting on
March 27--28, 1995, to gather input from the private sector on ways the
Federal government can help accelerate industry's transition to the
metric system. Participants from businesses, trade and professional
associations, educational institutions, and state and local governments
will share their views, opinions and suggestions on topics such as the
following: How using the metric system contributes to key national
goals such as U.S. global competitiveness, technology development and
commercialization, enhanced labor skills, and U.S. education reform;
How implementation of trade agreements (e.g., NAFTA and GATT) will be
influenced by industry's use or non-use of metric measures; How Federal
regulatory barriers to metric use can be identified and eliminated; and
How to best accelerate public understanding and acceptance of the
metric system. The Town Meeting will be held at the National Institute
of Standards and Technology in Gaithersburg, Maryland. For more
