U.S. DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR, U.S. BUREAU OF MINES-CONTRACT SECTION B, BUILDING 20 - DENVER FEDERAL CENTER, DENVER, CO 80225-0086

70 -- FINITE ELEMENT SOFTWARE PACKAGE SOL 14320295R0008 DUE 060195 POC Contract Specialist, MICHELE SEITZ, 303-236-0257 X234 The U.S. Bureau of Mines proposes to enter into a contract with Flow Science of Los Alamos, NM, for a computational fluid dynamics and solidification program software package. This software will be used to study casting processes for more economical and less wasteful casting procedures. This software must have the following characteristics: ability to model free surfaces as they change in time, including free surface turbulence during mold filling, ability to model squeeze casting, ability to model slightly solidified metals, ability to model the lost foam process, which includes the multi-phase transition of the foam itself. The U.S. Bureau of Mines believes that the intended source, Flow Science, is the only source with the capability to provide this requirement. No other contractor was considered since other packages do no include the multiphase transition of the foam itself. See Numbered Note 22.(0079)
