The Agricultural Research Service requires a FT-IR/Raman spectrometer system providing both step scan Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) and step scan Fourier transform Raman (FT-Raman) capabilities. The system shall be a computer-controlled, high performance, research grade instrument of current state-of-the- art design. Features include computer-selectable mirror velocities, automatic beamsplitter changer, standard spectral range of 750- to 370 cm-1, signal to noise ratio of better than 20,000:1, air-cooled infrared source and computer-controlled step scan acquisitions. It shall be stable at mirror velocities as low as 0.055 cm/sec in the continuous scan mode for experiments relating modulation frequency and thermal dissusion lengths to photoacoustical signal amplitudes at different wavenumbers.
