COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF march 27,1995 PSA#1311Los Alamos National Laboratory, P.O. Box 1663, Los Alamos, NM 87545 A -- BASIC RESEARCH WORK Sol IPO:LIC95-CPR316-0800. Contact Charles

(505) 665-0154. The University of California, which operates the Los
Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) under contract to the Department of
Energy, solicits interest from companies wishing to license and
commercially produce a High-Performance Parallel Interface (HIPPI)
First-In First-Out (FIFO) Buffer Memory device. This device, known as
the HIPPI FIFO, contains 32 Megabytes of Dynamic Read Only Memory
(DRAM) which is used to store incoming HIPPI data temporarily prior to
forwarding it on its output HIPPI port. There are other more
sophisticated HIPPI memory devices on the market, but this device is
much simpler and less expensive because it forwards HIPPI bursts in
order that they are received rather than allowing for any type of
random access to the bursts. The HIPPI FIFO can be used for at least
two purposes: (1) as additional buffer memory for the LANL HIPPI-SONET
Gateway, and (2) as a speed-matching buffer between HIPPI connected
computers which have different performance characteristics. The HIPPI
FIFO can be programmed to retain all data associated with a single
connection until all of that data is in the buffer. It then requests a
connection to forward the data to the final destination. If your
company wishes to receive more information on this opportunity, it
should respond with a letter of interest describing your company's
expertise, manufacturing and marketing capability, and financial
resources and motivation for obtaining a license. The statement of
interest must be dated within 15 days from the date of this notice.
