Sources sought notice: No solicitation will be issued as a result of
this notice. This sources sought notice is being publicized to
determine if there are any potential sources that have the capability
to produce the MK399 MOD1 and FMU-153/B Fuzes. The U.S. Army ARDEC at
Picatinny Arsenal intends to purchase 247,444 MK399 MOD1 Fuzes and
195,000 FMU-153/B Fuzes. The MK399 MOD1 is a PD and Delay fuze capable
of being launched from the Army's 105mm, 155mm and 8 inch artillery
systems when hardened steel penetrator that allows it to perform
against MOUT targets when the fuze is set ''Delay''. When the fuze is
set ''PD'', it may be used for other purposes. The MK399 MOD1 is a
combination of two proven fuze designs. The MK399 MOD0 and the MK407
MOD1 PD/Delay Fuzes. The combination is the packaging of the internal
components from the MK407 MOD1 into the body of the MK399 MOD0. There
were minor design changes to the Safe Arming Mechanism to reflect the
Army's arming requirement. These changes were removing two (2) gear
teeth from the sector gear and weakening the spin lock springs. This
would facilitate arming the fuze at 400 calibers from the weapon at all
spin rates observed from the weapon. For the FMU-153/B Fuze, the
internal components ffrom MK399 MOD1 will be packaged into a fuze body
that meets the Air Force requirements. The information being sought is
for informational purposes only. This request does not constitute a
solicitation of proposals. Respondents should describe their general
and specific qualifications, background, equipment, and facilities
available as well as the qualifications of the Technical personnel who
would support this program. Interested candidates should submit the
requested information to the address listed above within the next
twenty (20) days from the date of this notice. All data should be
submitted to U.S. Army ARDEC, Procurement and Production Directorate,
