The Carderock Division, Naval Surface Warfare Center (CDNSWC), IAW Far
6.302, intends to solicit and negotiate with only one source, Division
Inc., Chapel Hill, NC, for a ProVision 10 VPX(TM) Immersive Virtual
Reality (VR) Hardware Bundle for an HP 735 workstation. CDNSWC has an
existing HP 735 CVRX workstation. The ProVision 10 VPX(TM) system
developed by Division Inc. is the only system able to provide an
immersive VR graphics capability for the existing HP workstation.
Division Inc. is the sole developer and manufacturer of the VPX(TM)
system. This VR system uses the PIXEL-PLANES(TM) drawing engine which
has the capability and speed needed to render virtual worlds which
require photo-quality texture mapping and high polygon performance of
at least 300,000 Gouraud or Phong shaded, z-buffered fully
texture-mapped triangles per second. PIXEL-PLANES(TM) technology has
been developed by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and
has been licensed by Division. Division is the only company to utilize
this technology to develop a VR capability for the HP workstations. The
solicitation will be issued on or about 1 May 1995 and will close
approximately 30 days thereafter. (See Note 22) (0083) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0276 19950327\70-0009.SOL)
