``HOW TO DO BUSINESS WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF STATE'S U.S. MISSIONS OVERSEAS'' POC: Durie White 703-875-6825. The Department of State, Bureau of Administration, proposes to host a one-day seminar, ``How to Do Business with the Department of State's U.S. Missions Overseas'' for U.S. firms, including small, minority, and woman-owned firms, which are interested in the ``small purchases'' market at the 250+ U.S. embassies/consulates worldwide. The seminar would take place in Arlington, Virginia on a date in mid-October, 1995 to be determined. The Department of State purchases an aray of goods in support of our American embassies/consulates abroad, including, but not limited to: office supplies, computer peripherals and ancillary equipment; office furniture/furnishings; carpeting; appliances (for operation on overseas currents); motor vehicle replacement parts; medical supplies; representational items (i.e., engraved pens, pencils, etc). In addition, the Department operates Employee Associations at many U.S. posts overseas. Employee associations are non-appropriated independent businesses that have been established at U.S. missions worldwide with the purpose of making life easier for U.S. foreign service personnel. Employee associations offer their members-the U.S. mission community-wide variety of services including: commissaries, gift shops, restaurants/bars, snack shops, video clubs, swimming pools, tennis courts, child care facilities, and others. Procurement is handled at the local level with each employee association choosing its own vendors.
