COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF APRIL 3,1995 PSA#1316National Library of Medicine, Office of Acquisitions Management, 8600
Rockville Pike, Building 38A, Room B1N17, Bethesda, MD 20894 R -- BINDING PREPARATION SERVICES FOR THE NATIONAL LIBRARY OF MEDICINE
SOL RFP NLM 95-105/SLC DUE 060195 POC Sharon Cummings, 301-496-6546.
The National Library of Medicine has a requirement for the preparation
for binding of library materials as a means of preservation.
Approximately 27,000 volumes of serials and monographs are received
unbound each year. These volumes must be bound in hard covers to
protect them from damage during use and to keep individual serial
issues from being easily lost. The Library sends materials to a
commercial binder. The purpose of the binding preparation project is to
retrieve volumes from the collection which require binding, collate the
volumes and prepare instructions for the commercial binder, check in
and perform quality control on the commercial binding, attach bar
codes, and update NLM files which indicate the binding status of
volumes. A related task included in the project is to pull from the
shelves unbound volumes which have been superseded by cumulations. The
work is performed onsite at the National Library of Medicine.
Inquiries may be referred to National Library of Medicine, Office of
Acquisitions Management, 8600 Rockville Pike, Building 38A, Room B1N17,
Bethesda, Maryland 20894. Attention: Sharon L. Cummings, Contract
Specialist, (301)496-6546. Telephone/FAX requests will not be accepted.
