Research Center's Central Process Systems. The Central Process Systems

compressed air, exhaust, and electrical power for over 100 research and
test facilities. The equipment consists of compressors, exhausters,
large horsepower drive motors, chillers, heaters, dehydrators, and
electrical substations operated remotely via a computer-based
distributed control system. The distributed control system uses remote
processors and programmable logic controllers communicating via
thirteen miles of coaxial data highway cable to operator workstations
at the Central Control Building. The remote processors and programmable
logic controllers are used for logic and closed loop process control
and data acquistion at the equipment. A total of about 10,000
input/output channels are connected to this system. Operators interface
with the system with color graphic terminals using track balls and
keyboards. The service and maintenance will be performed on all control
equipment, including the distributed control system, instrumentation,
and actuators on both a scheduled and unscheduled basis. Field
engineering will be performed on an unscheduled basis to implement
engineering changes to the distributed control system and minor changes
to the Central Process System. Qualification requirements will include
