B -- FEASIBILITY ANALYSIS OF ALTERNATIVE WOOD-BASED INDUSTRIES FOR THE CITY & BOROUGH OF SITKA SOL RFP R10-95-15 DUE 053095 POC Contact Point, Lisa N. Engen, (907)586-8880 This project will provide a detailed analysis and final report on the economic and technological feasibility of alternative wood-based industries for the City and Borough of Sitka, Alaska. The intent is to evaluate the economic feasibility of locating a new wood processing facility or facilities in Sitka. The study will identify and evaluate a variety of product options which meet the following criteria specified by the city: provides year-round employment for approximately 50 people; can be sustained with the available wood supply; uses an environmentally acceptable production process; and provides maximum opportunity for the on-site manufacture of finished products. The study will provide information on the species and grade of timber that is required for each option and the potential sources of supply (including wood available from primary manufacturers currently operating in the region). The study will also identify and include economic factors specific to Southeast Alaska that are critical in assessing the economic feasibility of potential industries. A pre-proposal conference is planned for May 8, 1995 in Sitka, Alaska, the location to be announced in the RFP. The due date for the final report will be January 31, 1996, with an estimated start work date of late July or early August, 1995. Technical evaluation factors for award will include: technical approach; management; qualifications of key personnel; and past performance. The project is 100% set-aside for small business concerns.
