66 -- TWO (2) EACH FIFTH BEAM CAPABILITY POC Sandy Staggs, 601-634-3698 The USAE Waterways Experiment Station (WES) proposes to award a contract to RD Instruments (RDI), San Diego, CA, for the purchase of two fifth beam capabilities mechanically and electronically integrated with two government owned 1200 Khz Continental Shelf Self-contained Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers (ADCP's) manufactured by RD Instruments, Inc., San Diego, CA. Each fifth Beam transducer shall be permanently mounted on each ADCP transducer head in the center of the four existing standard transducers and will transmit and receive along the axis of the ADCP when it is in the ''in-line'' configuration. The metal of each transducer, its mounting, and the finishing surface coatings shall be such that they will not create a potential for increased corrosion of the final systems over that experienced by a standard ADCP. Each fifth-beam transducer shall have nearly identical acoustic characteristics to the other four transducers on each head. The internal circuitry for each transducer shall interface and function with the standard ADCP circuitry and shall be mechanically mounted in the head in such a way as to be structurally sound when the instrument is subject to vibration and reasonable shock impact. In addition the fifth beams shall operate under the control of firmware developed by RDI and for which the government cannot provide detailed technical information. If no other sources are found, the Government intends to award a contract to RD Instruments (RDI) under the authority of 10 U.S.C. 2304 (c)(1). Solicitation documents are not available.
