This notice announces an industry briefing presenting details for the planned procurement of one or more demonstration laser designator units. The units for the current procurement action will be technology demonstrators addressing the critical issues associated with the development and production of a new generation of ground-based, lightweight laser designators for tactical use on the battlefield. Features of the designator include eye-safe ranging, thermal viewing, interface to the digital battlefield, and modularity. The briefing will discuss the operational requirements, present major technical issues identified by the government, overview the structure and details of the anticipated demonstrator procurement, and introduce key government technical and contracting personnel associated with the procurement. The briefing will also discuss guidelines and constraints for the design tradeoffs, and present the anticipated shedule and major factors of the government evaluation of proposals.
