Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) describing experimental, developmental
and applied research work opportunities at the office of the
Simulation, Training and Instrumentation Command (STRICOM) and the Army
Research Institute (ARI), Central Florida Research Park, Orlando,
Florida, will be issued to interested parties on or about 30 June 1995.
This BAA will remain in effect for five years or until superseded. The
BAA is general in nature and identifies current research and
development areas of research interest in current and projected
capabilities. Research areas of interest include: 1. BATTLEFIELD
SIMULATION RESEARCH (Engagement Simulation and Instrumentation
Technology, Distributed Simulator Networks, Wargame Simulations); 2.
TRAINING DEVICE AND SIMULATOR RESEARCH (Simulator Design Methodologies,
Visual Simulation, Software Technology); 3. INSTRUMENTATION, TARGETS
AND THREAT SIMULATORS RESEARCH (Instructional, Targets, Threat
Simulators); 4. TEST AND EVALUATION RESEARCH; 5. TRAINING SYSTEMS
RESEARCH; AND 6. TRAINING SYSTEMS EVALUATION RESEARCH. Potential
sources are encouraged to request copies of the BAA from Vallerie Redd
or Michael Rindfleisch, Code 27331, at the address above. After review
of the BAA, potential sources are encouraged to contact the appropriate
STRICOM or ARI office to determine if a response to the BAA is
warranted. Points of contact will be identified in the BAA. If a
potential source has a novel research approach, a BAA white paper
should be prepared. The white paper should address the major research
thrust, the technical approach, the research goals and military
relevancy. Notice of STRICOM/INDUSTRY/ACADEMIA BULLETIN BOARD (SIA BB):
The U.S. Army Simulation, Training and Instrumentation Command
(STRICOM) established an electronic bulletin board system that has been
available since 16 February 1993 to government agencies, industry, and
academic institutions. The SIA BB is designed to share information
between STRICOM, Industry, and Academic concerning potential and actual
acquisition programs during all phases of the acquisition process. A
Commerce Business Daily article giving notification of the SIA BB was
published o/a 8 February 1993. It allows users to communicate with
STRICOM via an automated program. The system operates at up to 9600
baud, modem settings are: 8 bits, 1 stop bit, and no parity. Data
regarding future and in-progress projects/acquisition are available as
both text files and self extracting compressed files. It is a secured
system requiring accounts and passwords. New account users are
required to complete the application that is posted on the system and
access is automatically approved. The phone numbers for access and/or
