Contracting Officer, Bonnie Fitch. The Air Force Development Test
Center (AFDTC) intends to solicit and negotiate with only one source,
Datatape Inc., 3222 South Memorial Pkwy, Huntsville, AL 35801, (205)
881-2231. In accordance with FAR 6.302-1, Datatape PN 636401-X is the
only known Airborne Digital Recorder/Reproducer that can meet the
Government's minimum essential requirements and comply with the
aircraft operational flight envelope and safety standards in accordance
with Air Force Material Command (AFMC) Regulatioon 80-33. The airborne
digital recorder/reproducer shall consist of two modules (one
electronic module and one storage module), shall have a minimum of
three and one/half (3 1/2) hours record time at 12 Megabits/second and
shall be interfaced via differential SCSI II. The storage modules
shall be conditioned for airborne environments and shall be capable of
separation at distances of up to 50 feet. Increased record time shall
be accomplished by daisychaining up to 50 feet. The storage module
shall contain a digital linear tape (DLT) drive and utilize media that
is compatible and interchangeable with currently available
workstations such as Hewlett-Packard (HP) Sun and International
Business Machines (IBM). Optional storage modules shall be equipped
with hard drives, optical drives or solid state memory storage media
conditioned for airborne environments with no change to the physical
dimensions of the storage module. Item requested shall be an
off-the-shelf unit and not in research and development. A detailed
environmental test report shall be provided proving air worthiness of
the item in accordance with listed environmental specifications. Item
must be form, fit, and function compatible and directly interchangeable
with the Datatape Inc. 636401-X (X defines optional storage media)
airborne digital recorder/reproducer. A one year requirements contract
for an estimated quantity of 37 is anticipated, with four one-year
options for an estimated quantity of 38 for option years 1 and 2, and
an estimated quantity of 32 for option years 3 and 4. Total estimated
quantity desired is 177 each. A solicitatioon has not yet been prepared
for this acquisition. Replies to this synopsis should reference

if they are a small or small disadvantaaged business concern as
defined in FAR 52.219-1 and 52.219-2. The Air Force reserves the right
to consider a small business set-aside based on responses hereto. All
responsible sources may submit an offer which will be considered.
Firms are also requested to submit information regarding their
capabilities (i.e., literature, catalogs, brochures, etc) to furnish
supplies that comply with the requirements of the Government. Failure
to provide this information will not allow the Government to
technically evaluate your capability. Requests must be in writing,
