COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF APRIL 17, 1995 PSA#1326US Army ARDEC, AMSTA-AR-ALC, Building 455, Picatinny Arsenal, New
Jersey, 07806-5000 58 -- RADIO FREQUENCY (RF) BASED DATA TRANSCEIVING ''TAG''
TECHNOLOGY'' POC Defense Ammunition Logistics Activity, Mr. Jim
Fedewitz, email=fedewitz, 201-724-4783. U.S. Army Armament Research
Development and Engineering Center (ARDEC), Picatinny Arsenal, NJ in
conjunction with U.S. Army Defense Ammunition Logistics Activity, is
interested in employing technologies that can be used for monitoring
the flow of materiel as it travels throughout the logistics system
worldwide. In particular, the Army is interested in a class of devices
often referred to as ''RF TAGS'' that employ radio frequency (RF)
energy to transmit and receive information between an ''Interrogator''
and a ''TAG''. The purpose of this announcement is to survey the
commerical marketplace for information regarding this technology and
determine what particular product(s) are currently, or soon to be
available, that could be used effectively for asset tracking,
distribution management and control. Preliminary testing of
products/systems that appear to be viable may be pursued by the Army
folloing this market survey. Ideally these RF TAGS will have as many
capabilities listed below as possible. It is recognized however, that
there are cost and performance trade-offs associated with these
capabilities. Desired capability/features are: remote read/write
ability, read range of atleast 50 feet. ''Flexible'' read/write memory
capacity ranging up to 128 K Bytes, operating frequency (or
fequencies) that enables unlicensed use worldwide ability to
discriminate one TAG from among a population of many - up to 500, low
irradiated power levels - FCC part 15 compliant for unlicensed use data
transfer rates of at least 9600 baud, and I/O ports to accomodate
peripheral devices/sensors. Vendors are requested to provide
information to Commander, US Army Defense Ammunition Logistics
Activity, ATTN: AMSTA-AR-ALC (Mr. Jim Fedewitz), Building 455,
Picatinny Arsenal, New Jersey, 07806-5000. Phone inquiries may be
