66 -- 66-DELTA S SYSTEM ISOTOPE RATIO MASS SPECTROMETER, INCLUDING DUAL VISCOUS INLET SYSTEM, MEMCO S, HD COLLECTOR AND THREE (3) WARRANTY SOL NIH-NIDDK-95-7 DUE 042895 POC Livie V. Spearman, III., CONTRACT SPECIALIST, (301) 594 - 8855. The National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute of Diabetes & Digestive & Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) intends to negotiate on a competitive basis to solicit proposals from qualified organizations having the ability to furnish a DELTA S SYSTEM ISOTOPE RATIO MASS SPECTROMETER, INCLUDING Dual VISCOUS INLET SYSTEM, MEMCO S, HD COLLECTOR AND THREE (3) WARRANTY. The research goals of the Clinical Diabetes and Nutrition Section include studies aimed at understanding energy expenditure as a factor in the development of obesity and diabetes in the Pima Indian population. Previous research, which documented energy expenditure in a respiratory chamber, now is being extended to free-living conditions. The DELTA S SYSTEM ISOTOPE RATIO MASS SPECTROMETER, INCLUDING Dual VISCOUS INLET SYSTEM, MEMCO S, & HD COLLECTOR is an essential and critical item in that research. To significantly enhance the performance of the current isotope ratio Finnigan MAT 251 equipment, to enable a two-fold increase in productivity of the lab and to enable additional studies of substrate oxidation, it is requested that the capability of the lab be upgraded through the purchase of another mass spectrometer, i.e, a DELTA S SYSTEM ISOTOPE RATIO MASS SPECTROMETER, INCLUDING DUAL VISCOUS INLET SYSTEM, MEMCO S & HD COLLECTORS. The availability of the second mass spectrometer would eliminate current lengthy waiting periods for the results of the program's studies of Energy Expenditure in Free-Living Conditions, ''ENERGY EXPENDITURE In PIMA INDIANS: RISK FACTORS FOR BODY WEIGHT GAIN.'' The DELTA S SYSTEM ISOTOPE RATIO MASS SPECTROMETER, INCLUDING DUAL VISCOUS INLET SYSTEM, MEMCO S, & HD COLLECTORS will be used to run Hydrogen Sample Determination. Whereas the Finnigan MAT 251 will be dedicated to measure CO2 enrichment. Consequently, Isotopic Enrichment Measurements productivity will be doubled. The DELTA S SYSTEM ISOTOPE RATIO MASS SPECTROMETER, INCLUDING Dual VISCOUS INLET SYSTEM, MEMCO S, & HD COLLECTORS must be fully hardware and software (ISODAT) compatible with the existing Finnigan MAT Isotope Ratio MAT 251 meter peripherals currently used in the laboratory, i.e., the CO2 equilibrator and the hydrogen equilibrator, as well as the multiport supported by the Finnigan MAT software (ISODAT) currently running the Isotope Ratio Finnigan MAT 251 Spectrometer System. These expensive peripherals were custom designed for the laboratory to be compatible with the Isotope Ratio Finnigan MAT 251 System to measure ratios of the stable isotopes of 18 O to 16 O and deuterium to hydrogen. Therefore, the laboratory could nearly double production by having another mass spectrometer, i.e., The DELTA S SYSTEM ISOTOPE RATIO MASS SPECTROMETER, INCLUDING Dual VISCOUS INLET SYSTEM, MEMCO S AND HD COLLECTORS. This permits a doubling of the productivity for the studies of energy expenditure. This is a formal solicitation request, qualified organizations should respond in writing to receive the Request For Proposal (RFP). The RFP will be available approximately fifteen (15) calendar days from publication of this announcement. Copies of the RFP may be obtained by writing the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute of Diabetes & Digestive & Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), The Natcher Building, 45 Center Drive MSC 6600, Suite 6AN32, Bethesda, Maryland 20892-6600. Attention: LIVIE SPEARMAN, Contract Specialist. Telephone/FAX requests will not be honored. The size standard is 500 employees. SIC Code 8731. (0103)
