The Indian Health Service (IHS) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) have entered into an interagency agreement to jointly support a component of a national clinical trial related to the prevention of diabetes mellitus. A National Diabetes Prevention Trial is being planned that will involve 22 clinical centers throughout the country. IHS and NIH are cooperating to support one of the 22 centers - the Southwest Indian Center (SWIC). The program office of SWIC will be located in the Phoenix Epidemiology and Clinical Research Branch, a unit of the NIH. The Services of a contractor are required to obtain qualified professional and support personnel who will assist in the planning and operation of the study. The SwiC will enroll volunteers from the following locations: the Gila River and Salt River communities near Phoenix Az; and the Zuni and Shiprock, New Mexico communities. Personnel obtained through this contract will work at one of the above locations. The study is scheduled to last for at least five years and the services of the contractor are required throughout this period. This requirement is set aside for 100% Indian Owned firms who qualify for award under the Buy Indian Act 25 USC 47. Closing date for receipt of proposals is June 1, 1995, 4:30 pm, local time.
