COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF APRIL 18,1995 PSA#1327U.S. Geological Survey, Branch of Procurement and Contracts, 345
Middlefield Road, Mail Stop 285, Menlo Park, California 94025-3591 B -- INTERPRETATION OF GEOLOGIC MAPS AND TEXTUAL MATERIALS FROM ASIA
AND PRODUCTION OF MYLAR MAP OVERLAYS SOL RFP 2056 POC Contact Point,
Phyllis Yates, Contracting Officer, 415/329-4163; FAX 415/329-5480 The
U.S. Geological Survey has a requirement for the services of
geoscientists to provide bedrock geology, tectonics, and surficial
geology information in map overlay form for countries in Asia, to
support the USGS in producing a GIS database. The contractor will
translate and interpret published hardcopy geologic maps and supporting
textual materials provided by the government to produce the overlays,
which will be scanned, edited, and entered into a GIS system by the
USGS. Areas lacking data or with inconsistencies between borders must
be resolved using remotely-sensed data, provided by the USGS where
available. Ability to interpret maps of each country as well as
understanding the geophysical properties of geologic materials,
familiarity with GIS systems, interpretation of remotely sensed
multispectral and radar data, as well as availability of translators is
required. Additional overlay maps will be produced by the USGS,
therefore the contractor must be within commute distance of the USGS
Flagstaff, Arizona facility for regular consultation with the USGS to
assure consistency across all map-overlay borders; also, only one copy
of most maps exist. The expected performance period is 5 years, with
non-negotiable delivery schedules for each map beginning with
preliminary bedrock geology of China by 2/1/96. The USGS intends to
negotiate on a sole source basis with Graydon Lennis Berlin, Flagstaff,
AZ, the only known source with the capabilities required who is located
within the the Flagstaff, AZ area. Interested parties should respond in
writing with 15 days of publication of this notice, stating clearly
your capabilities to perform the foregoing. See Note 22. (0104) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0009 19950417\B-0001.SOL)
