COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF APRIL 19,1995 PSA#1328U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Division of Contracts, Attn: BPC,
Mail Stop TWF-7I2, Washington, D.C. 20555 R -- AGE DATING OF GEOLOGIC MATERIALS--STATE-OF-THE- ART METHODOLOGIES
APPLICABLE TO LICENSING OF NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS SOL NRC-04-94-041 POC
Mary H. Mace, Contracting Officer, 301/415-/7314, Deborah Neff,
Contract Specialist, 301/415-8160 The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory
Commission intends to negotiate a sole source modification with William
Lettis and Associates (WLA) for the completion of research entitled
''Age Dating of Geologic Materials - State-of-the-Art Methodologies
Applicable to Licensing of Nuclear Power Plants'' under Contract No.
NRC-04-94- 041. During Task 1 of the contract, Collection of
Information, WLA identified sites, and during Task 2, Testing of New
Methods, performed field and laboratory experiments at these sites to
test the appropriateness and resolution of new procedures. However, due
to the findings and experiences gained from performing Task 2, and in
order to accomplish the main objective of this contract, it is
necessary to perform additional tests to validate certain
geochronological methods that show promise for application in future
nuclear power plant site licensing activities. Also, the additional
work will include a plan to gather samples and perform additional
analyses to verify the results of samples now being analyzed in the
laboratory to ensure that the ages of the materials sampled are from
true fault scarps, and thus represent the times of occurrences of
earthquakes, and not the ages of secondary slide blocks, which may not
be seismically induced. Note 22 applies. (0107) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0070 19950418\R-0007.SOL)
