COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF APRIL 25,1995 PSA#1332Contracting Officer, Naval Research Laboratory, 4555 Overlook Ave., SW,
Washington, DC 20375-5326 70 -- MULTIPLE INSTRUCTION MULTIPLE DATA (MIMD) SCALABLE MASSIVELY
PARALLEL PROCESSING (MPP) SYSTEM SOL N00014-95-R-ET03 POC Evelyn
Taylor, Contract Specialist, Code 3240.ET, M. A. Carpenter, Contracting
Officer, (202) 767-2983. The Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) has a
requirement for a Multiple Instruction Multiple Data (MIMD) system for
continuation of innovative exploration, evaluation and use of
massively parallel processor (MPP) technology for the solution of
significant military relevant problems relating to the physical,
computation and information sciences. A modest size MIMD system will
complement the NRL Thinking Machines Corporation CM-5E platform and
provide access to two (2) distinct parallel styles to rapidly prototype
applications requiring both implicit and explicit specification of
parallelism. This new system will be used in a ''network-centric''
environment to create and exploit multi-platform scalable software, to
perform high speed networking, and to advance visualization and
database management applications. The system must provide a message
passing capability. A Pre-Proposal Conference is anticipated. NRL's
requirement is for a balanced (compute-to-communications) MIMD system
that provides a ''globally shared memory paradigm'' having at a
minimum: 10 GFlops peak 64-bit performance, 8 GBytes main memory, 50
GBytes of secondary storage in the form of RAID technology, and
appropriate external communications channel adapters to interconnect to
NRL's distributed computing, visualization and AFS-based tertiary
storage systems. Vendors shall be responsible for equipment
installation and acceptance testing, provisioning of system software,
and hardware and software maintenance to include optimization and
reconfiguration as necessary by NRL to meet the research user community
needs over the life of the contract. Anticipated delivery to be 150
days after date of contract. The estimated period of performance is
three (3) years to provide for upgrades, enhancements, and maintenance
options. Secret level security clearance required. Complete
specifications are available as part of NRL Solicitation No.
N00014-95-R-ET03, which is to be released unrestricted. Telephone
requests for this solicitation will not be honored. All responsible
sources may submit a proposal which shall be considered by the Agency.
RFP will close 35 days after issuance. Send requests for
