Arlington, VA 22203 F -- CONTINUATION OF A NATIONAL LIST OF PLANT SPECIES THAT OCCUR IN
WETLANDS. POC Marlene L Haywood, (703) 358-1728. The U.S. Fish and
Wildlife Service intends to award a sole source contract for a sum not
to exceed $105,000 to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
to continue and complete the data capture for the remaining 1,275
wetland vascular plants in the continental United States and revise the
data assignments for 1,054 species of Grasses and Asteraceae for the
Multiple Attribute Recognition System for Hydrophytes (MARSH). The
University will do data capture from the literature and dried herbarium
specimens and the incorporation of state distribution information for
each species. The data will be merged with data previously gathered by
Dr. John Kartesz of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
This project will complete the MARSH key to the vascular wetland plants
of the United States. Consequently, the University of North Carolina is
the only organization capable of providing the necessary information to
