Division of the Library of Congress invites firms with an involvement
or interest in the fields of geographic information systems or
cartography to participate in its Center for Geographic Information.
The broad purpose of the Center is to assist the Geography and Map
Division in the transition to the digital era of geographic and
cartographic information. The Geography and Map Division has the
world's largest collection of cartographic materials, including
approximately 4,500,000 maps, 60,000 atlases, hundreds of globes, more
than a million microfilm map images, and other miscellaneous items.
Items in its collections date from approximately 1350 AD to the present
and cover all areas of the world. The program of the Center will be
supported by contributions of various kinds from the participating
firms. Nine firms have already committed to being a member of the
Center for Geographic Information: Autometric, Inc.; Environmental
Systems Research Institute, Inc.; Harvard Design and Mapping Company,
Inc.; The H.M. Gousha Company; Intergraph, Inc.; Magellan Geographix,
Inc.; MapInfo Corporation; and Tangent Engineering, Inc. Any firm
interested in participating in the Center for Geographic Information
