A -- PROGRAM OPPORTUNITY NOTICE: CLEAN FUELS PROGRAM Program Description: The Technology Advancement Office of the South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD) was established by the AQMD Board in 1988 to administer and manage the state-mandated Clean Fuels Program through expediting the research, development, demonstration and commercialization of advanced emissions control technologies and clean-burning alternative fuels. The program is also an integral component of the Air Quality Management Plan to restore healthful air in the region by the year 2010. The objective of the Clean Fuels Program is to support and promote the development and demonstration of clean fuels and new pollution control technologies to increase their utilization in the region. Objectives of the Clean Fuels Program are achieved by cost-sharing development and demonstation projects with private industry, academic institutions, other government agencies, and major research institutes. Through these projects, the cost and risks of developing progressively lower-emitting technologies are shared, while the potential for achieving sustainable commercial success is maximized.
