The US Army ARDEC intends to place a contract with Thiokol Corp at Elkton, MD to repair and redesign the chemical hydroxylamine nitrate (HAN) pilot plant for the production of XM46 liquid propellant. Two options are planned. The first option is to optimize the triethanolamine nitrate (TEAN) process by replacing the centrifuge and performing TEAN crystallization process studies, TEA neutralization lab scale studies and NDELA reduction. The second option is to manufacture XM46 liquid propellant using HAN produced under the basic effort. See Numbered Note(s): 22. (0121)
